Kelly's Island - 40th Anniversary!

This year was the 40th anniversary of the Roehl/Coulton/McMinn Kelly's Island weekend. Therefore, there was no way that Dan was going to have us miss it. I agreed to take our 5 1/2 week old if we stayed in a hotel, that way if it was very hot or cold, we could regulate the temperature. Well, it turns out it was a hot one! More on that later. We also decided to go up Saturday morning as opposed to Friday night. So, Friday night we were packing for one night...yes that's right...one night. Packing for Dan and I took two minutes. Packing for Carmella took a bit longer:) I mean really, a baby needs all of this stuff??? Well, no, but you have to be prepared!

Saturday morning arrives and we get up and get on the road at 8:30. Carmella had done really well the night before, which allowed both Dan and I to get some sleep. Luckily, she also decided to sleep the whole way there. All in all, the trip to Kelly's was easy!

Carmella got to meet lots of new people and was a little angel for everyone. We also determined that she was the youngest to ever attend the Roehl/Coulton/McMinn Kelly's weekend. It was a hot one though so Dan and I decided to take her to the hotel about 3pm to give her a break from the heat. We thought for sure she would be tired from being up from 10:30 till then and being in the heat for so long...plus, didn't she want Mommy and Daddy to get a nap in the air conditioning too??? Not so much:( We finally got her calmed and she slept a little between Dan and I on the bed...but of course that didn't allow us to really sleep because we were afraid of rolling on her.

We went back to the cottage about 5:30 and again, a little angel. Not to say that we don't think she's an angel...it just seems that she is fussy when she's with just Mommy and Daddy and then makes little liars out of us by not making a peep when she's around everyone else. We're on to your games little one:) By 10:30, Carmella had enough of the heat and got fussy, so we headed back to the hotel. It took a while to get her to go to sleep, but she finally did. Here is the problem...Mel tends to fuss in her sleep and make quite a bit of noise when she does. At home this isn't a problem because we mute the monitor since her bedroom is right next to ours and by they time we hear her, she really is awake and it's time for us to get up to get her. When she's in the same room as us...we hear every little fussy noise...meaning no sleep for Mommy and Daddy. It was pretty exhausting, but we powered through.

We got up and went to the West End Club for breakfast and to hang for a little while before we made the trip back. We were glad we made the trip but weren't so sure how the trip home would go. It didn't start out so well:( We got to the ferry dock, where there was a long line and Carmella was screaming in her carseat. Dan got in the back to take her out and try and comfort her...which worked for a little bit, then she would scream again. We had to wait through 2 ferry's about 40 minutes before we got on. Again, major screaming. Since Dan had gotten in the back, I had gotten into the driver's seat. When we got off the ferry and onto the road, Mel calmed down and fell asleep. Total screaming time in the car 1 1/2 hours. I think it hurts Dan and I more because we don't know why she's screaming and it just sounds like it hurts her. Luckily, she slept the rest of the ride home!

All in all, it was good to see everyone and we were glad for Carmella to get to meet the Kelly's Island crew! See you all next year!
